Passengers flee after teen crashes car in La Quinta

A 17-year-old Indio boy got distracted by a textmessage and crashed into a parked car in La Quinta today, allegedly while underthe influence of alcohol and marijuana.

The crash on Calle Placido south of Calle Palmedo was reported about1:30 a.m, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Vasquez.

The boy, driving south on Calle Placido, had been drinking and smokingpot at a friend’s home, he said. The boy got a text on his cell phone andcrashed into a parked car, according to Vasquez.

Four passengers ran as police arrived, Vasquez said.

The driver was booked and released to his parents. Vasquez said heexpected the boy to be charged with driving under the influence.
