Palm Desert man arrested for assaulting an officer

A 37-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly attacking a sheriff’s deputy when he pulled him over in Palm Desert today. A motorcycle deputy conducted a traffic stop on Yi Ming Li at about 11:40 a.m. on Gerald Ford Drive, west of Shepherd Lane, sheriff’s Sgt. David Wright said. “During the investigation, the suspect assaulted the officer,” Wright said.

Li was taken into custody after a brief struggle, during which two deputies received minor injuries, Wright said. Li was booked into the county jail in Indio on suspicion of resisting a peace officer and battery on a peace officer. He was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and was expected to be arraigned on Tuesday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to jail records.
