LA wedding for plaintiffs in gay marriage case

For the first time in over four years, a same-sex couple is set to tie the knot in Los Angeles.

Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo, two plaintiffs who successfully challenged Proposition 8 before the Supreme Court, will marry at 6:15 p.m. Friday at LA City Hall.

The pair announced their plans minutes after a federal appeals court cleared the way for the state to immediately resume issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a brief order saying it has dissolved a stay it imposed on gay marriages while a lawsuit challenging the state’s voter-approved ban on such unions worked its way through the courts.

In San Francisco, plaintiffs Kris Perry and Sandy Stier also planned to marry Friday, with state Attorney General Kamala Harris officiating.
