Major makeover helps women get job interview-ready
Barbara Dorta and Lynn Scott say they love getting dolled up, they just don’t have time for it.
“Who doesn’t want to be pampered? It’s just you don’t have time to be pampered with children and stuff like that,” Dorta said.
“I’m a full time mom so basically I’m cooking and cleaning and taking care of everybody, taco Tuesday’s, so I really don’t have time to do my hair,” Scott said.
One call, and their style radar got piqued.
“Who’s going to turn down a free makeover! So of course I said yes,” Scott said.
What started as a small makeover workshop with the Riverside County Economic Development years ago transformed into a tradition Karl Vazquez looks forward to each year.
“I get people that come back and say ‘Hey, I got the job! and I feel really good about what you did and you know I’m keeping it up!’ and I always just look at it as, ‘Hey my door’s always open,” Karl Vasquez, owner of Karl Vasquez salon, said.
They say first impressions are made in a matter of seconds.
“They’re looking at how you do, because a lot of times that shoes them are you committee to something, taking care of things,” Cindy Davis from the Economic Development Agency said.
Luckily, these women have all the time they need in Karl’s chair to get interview-ready.
Each lady took a turn in the magic chair. First, a plan of attack, then go time.
With a grand swivel around in the chair, and Barbara and Lynn both say they feel like new women.
“I feel great, I feel wonderful, I feel very confident now. And I think I look beautiful,”
Karl says never underestimate the power of a little lipstick and curl, it might juts be the pep your step needs.
“It affects your psyche. I mean everybody wakes up one day and goes, ‘God, I really don’t like the way my hair looks or, you know, I just need a new look in general. If you multiply that by 100 you know is how some of the people feel,” Vasquez said.
