Jewelry thief steals necklace worth thousands from Coachella store
A man walked into a Coachella jewelry store and ran off with a $2,600 necklace, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
A shopkeeper at Leon’s Jewelry at 49849 Harrison St. called 911 shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday and told sheriff’s deputies the man entered the business and asked to see the necklace, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Tapp said.
Once the necklace was taken out of the display case the suspect grabbed it and ran out of the business, evading capture.
No one was hurt and sheriff’s detectives investigated the grab as a burglary, Tapp sacoachid.
The suspect was described as a thin Latino in his mid-20s, 5 feet-8 inches tall. The suspect wore a baseball hat, dark pants, a dark shirt and sunglasses, Tapp said.
Tapp said anyone with information about the burglary can call Investigator Ernie Lopez at the sheriff’s Thermal station at (760) 863-8107.
Tipsters wanting to remain anonymous can also call Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-7867
