Congressman Ruiz visits White House for pediatric bill signing

Dr. Raul Ruiz was at the White House to join President Obama and a group of bipartisan physician lawmakers for a bill signing ceremony.

The Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act was signed into law Thursday afternoon.

According to a statement from Dr. Ruiz, the legislation directs over $125 million over ten years to the National Institutes of Health. The money will go toward pediatric medical research by eliminating wasteful taxpayer funding for political conventions, Dr. Ruiz said.

“As a physician and public servant, my priority is the health and well-being of the people I serve,” said Dr. Ruiz. “This pragmatic solution is a firm step toward advancing much needed scientific research of pediatric diseases and disorders that will help find cures for devastating childhood conditions and help more children live healthy and happy lives.”

Dr. Ruiz is a cosponsor of The Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act and voted for its passage last year.
