Hwy. 74 reopens after landslide

A slope that was damaged last year during the Cottonwood Fire forced Caltrans to close part of Highway 74 east of Hemet on Monday morning.

Officials said SR 74 has reopened at Cranston Station after being closed in both directions due to a land/mudslide. Crews were called in to clear mud from the roadway.

Idyllwild residents were advised to take SR 243 from I-10 as a detour route during the closure.

The highway was reopened around 10:30 a.m.
