Some businesses still without power in Palm Desert

Some businesses in Palm Desert are still without power on Monday after a car crashed into a transformer on Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened near Dinah Shore Drive and Dick Kelly Drive. Crews with Southern California Edison are fixing power lines in the area and hope to have the issues resolved by 3:30 p.m.

More than 1,700 customers were affected by the outage.

Another power outage occurred Sunday after a downed tree caused the lights to go out on De Anza Way. Cal Fire said the tree caused a power line to fall, resulting in a small fire that was quickly put out.

SCE said power has been restored to all customers who were experiencing outages in that area.

Shoppers at Westfield Palm Desert tell us power was also out for parts of the mall. Shoppers were evacuated as a precaution when safety lights turned on.

“The lights went out and flickered for a second, they went back on and about five seconds later the employees started to evacuate the store, so they asked everyone to leave,” said shopperEmily Mayfield.

The shopping center on Monterrey north of Gerald Ford was also affected. Khols tells us power was out for about an hour and a half.

Edison reports most of the power was restored by 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
