Police arrest suspect involved in weekend murder
A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death at an Indio house party early Saturday was identified Sunday.
Police were dispatched at 3:45 a.m. Saturday to the 81-600 block of De Oro Avenue when a fist fight involving several people broke out outside a home.
When officers arrived, they found a victim, identified by coroner’s officials as Ezequiem Munoz, of Indio, lying on the driveway suffering from a stab wound.
Several people were also found standing around the are,, Indio Police Department spokesman Ben Guitron said.
Munoz was taken to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital for treatment and died at 5:10 a.m. Saturday, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office reported.
Witnesses told officers the suspect, Damian Leon, 18, of Indio, had run from the scene. While officers were still there, Leon returned to the De Oro Avenue home, Guitron said.
It was unclear why the suspect went back to the home.
Leon was arrested and booked for suspicion of murder and remained in custody today in lieu of $1 million bail, records showed.
A knife police believe was used in the deadly stabbing was recovered, Guitron said.
