Victim chases suspects after armed robbery at Cabazon Outlets
A victim chased three suspects in his rental car after he said he was robbed at gunpoint at the Cabazon Outlets Monday night.
Police responded to the call at 7:50 p.m.
The victim, who is a tourist from Mexico, told authorities he was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot by three suspects. He said he was placing some of his purchases in his rental car when the suspects approached him and demanded the merchandise and his money.
He told police all three suspects were wearing ski masks and one of them had a rifle.
The suspects then took off and the victim chased after them in his rental car.
The pursuit took them from the Cabazon Outlets onto westbound Interstate 10. The suspects exited the freeway at Ramsey Street in Banning, re-entered the freeway and headed eastbound on Interstate 10, where they exited at Main Street in Cabazon.
As both cars proceeded to the westbound I-10 on-ramp at Seminole Drive, the suspects began firing at the victim’s vehicle.
At least one round struck the victim’s vehicle, and it became disabled. The suspects continued on westbound Interstate 10.
No injuries were reported and the suspects got away.
In a release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, deputies don’t recommend that victim’s chase their assailants. Even though the man in this case wasn’t hurt, the best course of action is to get a good description of the suspect’s vehicle and call 911 immediately, deputies said.
The investigation is ongoing, if anyone has information about the robbery, please call the Cabazon Sheriff’s Station at (951) 922-7100.
