Watch fireworks while staying cool in the pool
The Palm Desert Aquatic Center has extended its hours on the Fourth of July.
City officials said the move will give guests an opportunity to watch the City of Palm Desert fireworks display while keeping cool in the pool or while sitting poolside.
Valley residents and visitors can swim at the facility from 11 a.m. through the fireworks show, which takes place at 9 p.m.
You’re allowed to just show up in the evening for the fireworks show if you want, but parking is expected to be difficult and street closures will be in place near the facility at 4 p.m.
Shuttle buses will be available adjacent to The Gardens on El Paseo at cross streets San Pablo and El Paseo, to and from Civic Center Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., according to a release.
After 7 p.m., the pools will be open and lighted, but the diving boards, slides and water play areas will be closed. Officials said the concession stand will be open throughout the night, selling hot dogs, pizza, nachos and snacks (No outside food or drinks allowed).
Lifeguards will be working, but children six-years-old or younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times and must be with an adult if they’re in the water and don’t know how to swim.
For Palm Desert residents with an ID, daily admission costs $2.50 to $4, depending on your age. Non residents can get into the Palm Desert Aquatic Center for $3.75 to $6.
The facility is located at 73751 Magnesia Falls Drive, behind Civic Center Park.
