La Quinta water feature repaired, police still searching for vandals

The water feature at La Quinta’s largest park is working once again after vandals damaged the main unit just before the 4th of July weekend.

Officials said the water fountain at La Quinta Park was vandalized on Tuesday, July 1, and the damage was beyond repair. Tustin Larson, the recreation supervisor for the city, said the main unit had to be replaced by the manufacturer.

Because of the vandalism, the popular water feature was unavailable to families during the Independence Day weekend.

The vandalism has been a recurring problem since the fountain was installed two years ago, but the previous damage was relatively minor compared to the latest incident.

A security camera was installed and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department analyzed the footage, but no suspects have been identified yet.
