Firefighters break car window to rescue baby

Firefighters broke out a car window to rescue a baby who was trapped inside on a hot day in Riverside.

The 1-year-old boy’s mother had left the keys inside the car Tuesday and the automatic locks trapped her son and the keys before she could get them out. The mother called 911.

Fire Capt. Ray Mendoza says the child was on the verge of overheating when firefighters arrived within five minutes and smashed the window.

The baby appeared fine.

Responders recommend the baby be taken to a hospital for additional evaluation, but the mother declined.

Temperatures in Riverside were in the high 80s on Tuesday.
