Poll: Brown maintains big lead over GOP challenger, but Kashkari gaining
A new Field Poll finds that Gov. Jerry Brown has a lead of 16 percentage points over GOP challenger Neel Kashkari in the governor’s race.
The poll released Thursday finds the Democratic incumbent with 50 percent support among likely voters compared to 34 percent for Kashkari, a former U.S. Treasury official.
That’s a 4 point gain for Kashkari since June.
The survey also found that Brown has a large lead with most voting blocs, including a 32-point edge with those who call themselves moderates.
Kashkari and Brown are set to appear in a televised debate tonight at 7 p.m. in Sacramento.
It is their only planned debate this election season.
The Field Poll interviewed 467 likely voters from Aug. 14-28.
The poll has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.
