Mulch fire burns in Desert Hot Springs
A mulch fire in Desert Hot Springs kept fire fighters busy Sunday afternoon.
Just before one o’clock several people reporting seeing smoke in the area of Palm Drive and 20th Street, which sits near the Desert Dunes Golf Club.
CAL FIRE says crews found a large pile of mulch illegally dumped in the area burning.
Crews were able to control it quickly but remained on scene for several hours worried afternoon winds could reignite hot embers.
“Our concern is that if the wind picks up like it normally does in the area it could push it into the brush and cause a problem,” said CAL FIRE Battalion Chief Rick Griggs.
No structures were immediately threatened, but fire crews says there is enough dry brush in the area that any fire could spread quickly with the help of strong winds.
