Police say missing college student was killed with knife
Two men have been arrested in connection to the death of a missing Cal State Northridge student from Saudi Arabia. Abdullah Abdullatif Alkadi’s body was found on the 10 freeway in Palm Desert last week.
The Los Angeles Police Department held a press conference Monday. Chief Charlie Beck said Alkadi was killed with a knife.
Prosecutors charged 28-year-old Agustin Rosendo Fernandez with one count of murder with the special circumstances of murder during a robbery and murder during a carjacking.
The other suspect hasn’t been named at this point in the investigation and it’s unclear if any additional charges will be filed.
Alkadi and Fernandez met through Craigslist after Alkadi posted his Audi A6 for sale, according to the L.A.P.D.
Officers said Fernandez is from Long Beach.
Abdullah Abdullatif Alkadi, 23, was a full-time engineering student. His body was discovered late Thursday night along Interstate 10 in Palm Desert. Alkadi had last been seen on the afternoon of Sept. 18 at his home in the 9900 block of Reseda Boulevard.
Fernandez is scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon.
The special circumstance allegations make him eligible for the death penalty. Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek death or life in state prison without the possibility of parole.
