Deputy shoots and kills another deputy in New Mexico
Authorities say a northern New Mexico sheriff’s deputy killed a fellow deputy at a hotel after firing several rounds at his colleague who was trying to flee after they argued.
Police say the shooting happened just after midnight at the Hotel Encanto in the southern New Mexico city of Las Cruces. The Santa Fe County deputies had just transported a prisoner to Arizona and were heading back to Santa Fe.
Police say 29-year-old Jeremy Martin was pronounced dead at MountainView Regional Medical Center, and detectives were interviewing the other deputy, a 27-year-old man.
Investigators say the deputies went to Dublin’s Street Pub where they drank alcohol and got into an argument. The argument continued at the hotel.
Authorities say several rounds were fired as Martin tried to flee into an elevator.
