A Yucca Valley man wanted on a warrant out of Maryland for failing to register as a sex offender was taken into custody Wednesday after deputies with the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station conducted a followup investigation.

According to the sheriff’s department, 56-year-old Charles Brown was known to be living in Yucca Valley, but had not registered with the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station.

Investigators discovered Brown had recently moved out of his apartment, located on the 55100 block of Airlane Drive, and befriended a 30-year-old Yucca Valley woman with young children.

Brown recently moved in with the woman and her children on the 56500 block of Antelope Trail in Yucca Valley, according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputies arrested him for failing to register as a sex offender in California. He was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail on $25,000 bail, pending extradition to Maryland for his outstanding warrant.
