Bomb squad says no explosive at Larson Justice Center

Update at 2:30 p.m. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Explosive Device team has determined that the black cylindrical object found near the entrance of the Larson Justice Center Wednesday morning was non-explosive. The courthouse is completely back open. Deputies continue to investigate how the object was placed there.

A suspicious package at the Larson Justice Center closes part of the Indio courthouse confirms the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The device was found near the west side of the courthouse around 10:15 Wednesday morning. Sheriff deputies shut down Oasis Street to all traffic and the west parking lot is closed. The western-most portion of the first floor of the courthouse also was closed off.

Sheriff’s officials said the closures were taken as a precaution and explosives experts were called to evaluate the item.
