Local business owners cash in on Coachella
This weekend marks the start of 3 big weekends of music here in the desert.
Local business owners hope to cash-in on the crowds for Coachella and Stagecoach.
Eddie Ochoa started Coachella Fresh after noticing a lack of Coachella merchandise.
“Last year we did the pop-up shop at the store and did live screen printing and had a DJ and all that stuff. The response has been great,” Ochoa said.
Now he’s set up three different pop-up shops in Palm Desert, Cathedral City and Palm Springs selling everything from crop tops to snap backs.
And it’s not just clothing stores cashing in.
If you’re looking for the boho-chic look, Just Blow Drys in Palm Desert is doing messy-bun hairstyles and braids to complete your Coachella look.
Owner Tracey Worthington said these are some of their busiest months of the year.
“It’s actually helping to extend our season a little more, which used to end right after Easter. Now, it gets extended and I think that’s really great for the local businesses, it really helps,” Worthington said.
The longer season means a huge boost for the local economy.
“I think it brings a lot of revenue to the valley. Businesses do tend to stock up on certain things Coachella related. Certain stores get festival attire,” Ochoa said.
Lamar Advertising is experiencing an up tick in business right now as well, they’ve sold 30 extra billboards specifically related to festival season.
A busy festival season is just what local business owners need to keep their businesses thriving.
