Indio mayor announces run for Congress
Indio Mayor Lupe Ramos Watson has announced that she will be running for Congress. She’s the first Republican to announce a run against a growing field.
“I am excited to throw my hat in the ring for Congress. I have been meeting with and speaking with members of the District over the past few months and have been humbled by the outpouring of support and cry for change in Washington. I look forward to sharing my message on jobs, the economy and the future of our Country with the voters of our District,” the mayor said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
The election isn’t until 2016. Ramos Watson worked with Republican Brian Nestande who challenged Democratic Congressman Raul Ruiz in 2014 and lost.
In February, she said she was considering a congressional run against Ruiz because she doesn’t feel her district is being well-represented.
She had recently visited Washington D.C. to meet with the National Republican Congressional Committee. GOP consultant Tommy Knepper said the GOP is working with her on her Congressional run and the meeting in Washington went well.
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 is expecting more information from the mayor on Wednesday.
