Gang Task Force arrests 2 men in Coachella
An 18-year-old man has been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon in connection to a shooting that took place in Coachella on April 17, and a 20-year-old man was also taken into custody for possession of cocaine while authorities were serving a search warrant.
The Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force served three gang-related search warrants in Coachella on Tuesday, May 12.
Three separate residences were searched; one in the 84-200 block of Redondo Sur, another in the 84-600 block of Las Lunas, and the last in the 84600 block of Romero Street, according to the sheriff’s department.
Andrew Flores, 18, is suspected of shooting at a man who was standing in a front yard in the 83-000 block of Moonlit Drive at about 11:55 a.m. on April 17. The victim told police the suspect leaned out of the passenger window of the vehicle, flashed gang signs and yelled ‘Coachella’. Officers said the victim wasn’t injured in the shooting.
Witnesses said the suspects fled the scene in a silver SUV. Officers found a vehicle matching the description in the 84-000 block of Rdondo Sur which ultimately led investigators to Flores.
Coachella resident Eddie Vargas, 20, was arrested for possession of cocaine for sales during the search.
Authorities said the search resulted in the confiscation of cocaine, a high-capacity ammunition magazine and items linked to criminal street gangs. Both suspects were booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
