Man charged in tour bus crash that killed 8 in 2013
Charges have finally been filed in connection with a deadly tour bus crash that left eight people dead and several others injured back in February of 2013.
Norberto Bravo Perez, 55, of San Ysidro was charged Nov. 3 with eight counts of felony vehicular manslaughter. If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum exposure of approximately 15 years in state prison, according to officials.
Perez was arrested Wednesday morning, and is tentatively scheduled to be arraigned via video Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the San Bernardino Justice Center.
The charges stem from the deadly tour bus crash that took place along State Route 38, between Mentone and Forest Falls on Feb. 3, 2013. The bus, which originated from Tijuana, was heading back to Mexico from Big Bear.
“Thanks to the thorough investigative work of the California Highway Patrol and the National Transportation Safety Board, we were able to finally determine what occurred that horrible night when a bus full of people lost control and crashed on a mountain road,” District Attorney Mike Ramos said. “We intend to seek justice on behalf of the victims and their families.”
Officials said lead Deputy District Attorney Cary Epstein will prosecute the case. At this time, no further details will be released.
