P.S. citizens group questions downtown plan
Tuesday at 5 p.m. on KESQ News Channel 3, Anchor Karen Devine sat down with Larry Luckinbill, a member of Citizens for Sensible Development, and talked about why his group is not happy with the downtown Wessman project. Mostly, the group wants to hear and see the transparency promised by newly elected Mayor Robert Moon and the Council.
“It is also our perception that City Hall has been slow and deeply unresponsive to the public call for transparency and change, and it has been negligent in protecting the public interest.”
“Our citizens group will continue to interact aggressively with City Hall, with our elected representatives, and the Press, to demand that the public be given a full accounting of how funds have been expended on the Downtown Plan, whether Mr. Wessman is implicated in the public corruption probe, and to work in concert to find solutions to this dilemma.”
Palm Springs City Councilman Geoff Kors sent us a list of 10 revisions that the new Council has agreed on to the Downtown Project.
He also said in a written statement:
“In the agenda for the upcoming March 2nd meeting there is a staff recommendation for further Council discussion that does not include additional public testimony. Staff made this recommendation because Council voted to close public testimony and continue the item for Council discussion at the conclusion of the February 3rd meeting. That said, it is up to Council at the March 2nd meeting to determine whether or not to again take public testimony and provide our residents another opportunity to share their views prior to any vote taking place.”
