Husband & wife accused of beating man in Calimesa bar
A married couple is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly beating a 64-year-old man at a Calimesa bar on Sunday night.
Deputies with the Cabazon Station said the incident happened just after 7 p.m. at Rumors Bar, located in the 1100 block of Calimesa Blvd.
According to the sheriff’s department, Robert James Bateson, 45, and his 32-year-old wife, Deanna Bateson, both from Beaumont, got into an argument with the victim and assaulted him.
The investigation revealed the victim was knocked to the ground and assaulted with a weapon. The type of weapon wasn’t mentioned, but deputies said it wasn’t a firearm.
The victim was beaten so badly deputies said he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit Sunday night.
Deputies caught up to the married couple on Thursday and took them into custody on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Jail records show the couple is being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on $25,000 bail each. They are both due in court on April 22.
