Construction worker falls 50 stories to his death in L.A.
A construction worker is dead after falling 50 stories off of a sky scraper being built in Los Angeles.
Officials say it was the unidentified victim’s 2nd day on the job.
The man plunged from the unfinished tower on Figueroa Street and hit the back of a passing car. Firefighters say the driver did not appear to be injured but was taken to a hospital to be examined.
The man killed did not have clearance to work above the third floor and he had also removed his hardhat. Officials also say the man was not performing functions related to his employment.
The death happened at the construction site of Wilshire Grand Center which will be the tallest building west of the Mississippi.
A ceremony was held earlier this month when the top beam was hoisted into place on the 73rd floor. The one billion dollar office and hotel tower is expected to open in 2017.
