Victim of Coachella crash dies in hospital
One of five people injured in a March 6 Coachella car crash died Wednesday in a hospital, sheriff’s deputies reported Friday. The unidentified 21-year-old man was in a Ford Focus that was struck by a Dodge Dakota on Sunday, March 6 at 3:51 p.m.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Castro, the Focus was making a left turn from Hill Drive onto Grapefruit Boulevard, when it was hit by the Dakota. Two people in the Focus were hospitalized with major injuries, including one victim who had to be airlifted, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
It was unknown whether the 21-year-old man was the Focus’ driver or passenger. Three people in the Dakota were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. The crash remained under investigation.
Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash, Castro said.
