CVUSD recognizes migrant workers at ‘Walk in My Shoes’ initiative
The Coachella Valley Unified School District has a large migrant student population. On Thursday morning, Superintendent Darryl Adams spent time with parents as they harvested grapes in the fields of Mecca.
The school district calls the initiative, ‘Walk in My Shoes’. It is done to recognize the challenges, hard work and the sacrifices migrant parents, and all parents, make to ensure their children receive the best education and opportunities.
Superintendent Adams began harvesting grapes at 6:30 a.m. and joined parents for lunch where he heard directly from them about their experiences, hopes and dreams for their children.
Out of 3,090 migrant students in Riverside County, more than half (2,207) attend Coachella Valley Unified schools, district officials said in a release.
