Injured teacher speaks in court after student found not guilty
A Coachella Valley teacher who was injured by a student during a fight in 2012 was back in court Thursday; one week after a jury found the student accused of the crime not guilty.
Last week a jury found Manuel Martinez Jr. not guilty of felony assault charges that stemmed from the fight at Summit High School back in September 2012.

Melissa Labayog was teaching class at the time. The fight happened on campus and Labayog was struck, leaving her partially blind, and deaf in one ear.
According to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Labayog’s appearance on Thursday was a chance for her to address the court. This is allowed under Marcy’s Law.
