Construction to remove Indio bridge closes intersection until 2017
Construction began Monday to replace a bridge above the All- American Canal with a concrete culvert, resulting in the closure of that Indio intersection until March of next year.
Crews will remove the wooden bridge at the intersection of Madison Street and Avenue 50, during which time drivers will have to use detours to get to areas usually accessible through the crossing.
Detour signs will remain posted throughout the construction period, which is slated to end by March 3, according to city officials. However, work will be suspended between Sept. 24 and Oct. 18 to accommodate the Desert Trip music festival weekends.
The All-American Canal Improvement Plan, a joint project of the cities of Indio and La Quinta, will result in the widening of both roadways.
“The city of Indio is the fastest-growing community in the Coachella Valley, so it’s important that we keep up with that growth by improving our roads and updating our infrastructure,” said Indio City Manager Dan Martinez.
“The canal improvement project is an innovative solution from the City’s Engineering Department, and we think residents will be pleased with the result.”
