Dozens of valley Boy Scouts work on Eagle Project

Saturday marked a busy day for more than three dozen valley Boy Scouts, as they got out to help the community as part of an Eagle project.

Scouts from Troop 377 spent their day at La Quinta Middle School transforming an overgrown patch of grapevines into a beautiful garden area for students to learn about horticulture.

The scouts spent several hours hacking away the vines, pulling weeds, and hauling away several loads of debris.

They eventually put up wire trellises and replanted fruit trees, all a part of the special kind of service project.

“It’s providing a nice place so that if students are interested in learning more about gardening, can use this space to learn more about the particular plant, which is grapevines,” Harrison Bluto said.

Bluto said an Eagle project is one of the last requirements to become an Eagle Scout.

He said several Lowe’s stores and Southwest Boulder donated all the supplies for the project.
