Neighbors speak out after shooting in Indio

Indio police are on scene investigating a shooting at the corner of Monroe Street and Oleander Avenue.

The call came into Indio police just after 5:45 p.m. that a person has been shot on Oleander Avenue. The victim turned up at the Circle-K on the corner of that intersection. Sgt. Dan Marshall confirmed the shooting, and says the wounds to the victim are non-life-threatening.

“It was about nine shots, I peaked out the window and I saw the young man across the street on the ground,” said Steven Ponce who lives on the street.

According to Ponce he saw the victim of the shooting get up and run door to door looking for help before going into the Circle-K.

People who reside on this street say this part of Indio is a safe place to live.

“It’s pretty quiet but I guess it just got a little loud today,” said Ponce.

“[Oleander Ave.] is safe, I don’t know towards the end of the street, I don’t go over there,” said Anibal Figueroa who lives on the street.

The Indio Police Department has not yet released any information on suspects in the shooting.

If you have any information on this shooting call Valley Crimestoppers at 760 341-STOP. Tips can remain anonymous and you may be eligible for a cash reward.
