West Elm shares Thanksgiving table setting tips
Thanksgiving is right around the corner and that means it’s time to start decorating. But before you can serve the turkey and enjoy some pumpkin pie you need to set the table.
Alexandra Pierce sat down with Sam Messina from West Elm to learn about three different table settings to fit your style of entertaining. The first setting is the best fit for an elegant and formal Thanksgiving gathering.
“This table setting we’re looking at is more of an elegant table setting, you’ll see we took just a few simple elements, silver charger plates, silver rimmed dishes, that make for such an elegant setting,” Messina said.
He said simple touches like dried glitter foliage are great additions to add to centerpieces which are candle holders pieced together.
“Look at using conventional elements in unconventional ways. So in this case I took a runner which would normally be used on the length of the table, I used it short ways. Which is unconventional but it really delineates the space,” Messina said.
The second option is for families looking to dine al fresco style.
“Being in Palm Springs the weather is terrific this time of year, there will be a lot of al fresco dining. I thought this was a great way to pull in natures elements into your table setting. This could easily be done with cactus that you purchase at the Home Depot or as you see here with our topiary trees,” Messina said.
Messina suggests using little potted plants as more than just decor.
“Write their name on it make it personal. It can be a place card for your guest and it can also be a gift to remember the evening by,” Messina said.
If you’re keeping it casual, the third option is to set up a buffet.
“Very simple, very clean, very easy for you. Maybe you’re a first time entertainer and you don’t want to get stressed out having to do the perfect table setting,” Messina said.
Remember in a perfect world Thanksgiving shouldn’t be stressful. But in the event of a family argument or turkey malfunction, at least your table setting is on point.
