Supervisor Benoit battling pancreatic cancer

Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit is battling pancreatic cancer. The longtime politician from the Coachella Valley confirmed the results of a biopsy late Wednesday afternoon. Less than a week ago, Benoit, 64, shared the news he would be reducing his workload in order undergo treatment after weeks of discomfort, fatigue and coughing. “My oncologist confirmed today (Wednesday) that I have advanced pancreatic cancer, and the prognosis is not good. I will begin an aggressive regimen of chemotherapy Tuesday and will continue to explore all options. “I want to thank the community for the overwhelming outpouring of support I have received these past few days. I will continue working with a reduced schedule as I undergo treatment and will maintain close contact with my staff.” Benoit represents the fourth district of Riverside County as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. He has previously served as a State Senator, and Assemblyman, and retired after more than 30 years of service in law enforcement, including 29 years with the California Highway Patrol.
