Family escapes home after trailer catches fire in Palm Springs
A woman pulled up to her house in Palm Springs Friday afternoon to see a trailer engulfed in flames in the driveway. And the trailer fire was starting to spread to her house, and her neighbor’s house.
The fire sparked in the Mountain Gate neighborhood on Vista Verde near Gateway Drive at about 3 p.m.
The woman told KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 that her husband, two children and two dogs were still inside their house, completely unaware that the trailer was on fire. She was still in her car, and that’s when she started blasting down her horn to alert her family.
Fortunately, her entire family was able to get out of the house uninjured.
Firefighters arrived soon after and were able to douse the trailer fire. The roofs of the two houses were both burned slightly.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The woman said her husband had been working inside the trailer prior to to fire, and officials with the Palm Springs Fire Department speculate that the fire could have been started due to an electrical issue, or due to the rainfall.
KESQ’s Joe Galli met with the woman and her family. Hear about the incident in their own words on News Channel 3 at 5 p.m. and on CBS Local 2 at 5:30 p.m.
