Local students heading to Trump Inaugaration
Six students from Indio High School will be heading to Washington D.C. for the inauguration of Donald Trump Friday.
Despite a growing list of California lawmakers boycotting Fridays’ inauguration, six students from Indio High School will be heading to Washington D.C. for the big event later this week.
“I think this is going to be life changing for them, leaving California,” said Lisa Nava, social studies teacher at Indio High School who is spearheading the trip. “Many of them being on a plane for the first time, to go to D.C., attend all the sights and attend an inauguration that has been so controversial.”
The teenagers say no matter what their political views, they are honored to witness this peaceful transition of power.
“People have the right to not go and chose that they like this president but the fact is he will be our president and wanting him to fail is not really good for the country,” said 17 year-old Markus Clipper.
The trip is part of the Roaming Rajahs travel club, which was started a year go with the intention of taking a large student group but ended up with six students. All six of the students are in the advanced history class at the high school.
The group will attend the inauguration parade and the swearing in ceremony. Their tour will also include a tour of D.C., the Smithsonian, Arlington National Cemetery, and several other museums.
They will be leaving Thursday and return on Sunday.
