Roof repair calls flood experts for help
Emergency roof repair calls skyrocketed as a storm hit the Coachella Valley.
In the last two weeks, some Palm Springs homes were destroyed by rain. An air conditioning unit was improperly removed from the roof of one condominium. Associa Desert Resort Management says it left holes causing a major leak.
“When the manager came in there was obviously significant water on the floor and the carpeting,” Tad Black with Associa Desert Resort Management said. “There were some holes left on the roof unbeknownst to anyone until we got the rain and that effected multiple units.”
Associa Desert Resort Management says it fielded more than 100 calls about roof repairs after the last storm hit the valley a week ago. It’s an issue most homeowners don’t think about until a costly emergency shows up.
“When the roof is wet, it’s kind of hard to do any type of repairs so plastic might be the only remedy but pretty much when it’s raining and it’s wet, it’s almost impossible to do the necessary repairs until its dry,” Dave Bienek with Vision Roofing Services said.
Experts say getting someone out to your home may take time because of the influx of calls during stormy weather. But there are some things homeowners can do to prevent a leak.
“Keep the gutters clean, make sure there’s no broken tiles, all the drains are cleared,” Bienek said.
Property management companies and roofers say they are ready to handle the next flood of calls for repairs.
