Construction of LQ fence to protect bighorn sheep begins soon

The La Quinta City Council voted Tuesday night to approve a temporary fence to keep bighorn sheep off the Silver Rock Golf Course. KESQ and CBS Local 2 reported in December when the council was finalizing its decision.

Construction of the fence will begin on March 1. The city will pay $802,606, awarding the contract to American Fence Co. out of San Marcos, which was the only contractor to bid on the project, city officials said in a release.

La Quinta Mayor Linda Evans said the dollar amount approved for the project is not entirely for American Fence Co.

The project includes the following expenses:

Professional/Design: $ 49,600 Environmental Monitoring: $111,000 Inspection/Testing/Survey: $ 48,000 Rental Agreement/Construct: $496,206 – American Fence rental cost for 2 years City Administration: $ 24,800 Contingency: $ 73,000 TOTAL BUDGET: $802,606
