Woman’s dogs killed by bees in Cathedral City
Two dogs are dead tonight after they were attacked by bees in their own backyard.
“I heard my dogs yelping, so I went by the side of the door to see if he was okay, and he was swarmed with bees,” said dog owner, Elizabeth Murrell.
Murrell’s two dogs, Emily and Capone, were attacked by bees on Monday. Each dog suffered hundreds of bee stings.
The family rushed the dogs to the animal hospital, but say it was too late, both dogs died.
According to Murrell a neighbor has a bee box in their backyard.
“Their supposed to remove the bees tonight, but we don’t know for sure if they’ll remove the bees,” Murrell said.
Cathedral City officials say they do not have an ordinance banning bee hives or raising bees in a residence.
Vector control says while they can’t confirm the source responsible for the dog’s attack, they are urging people to eliminate potential nesting sites.
