Strong winds blow sand ahead of weekend storm
As another winter storm approaches, parts of the Coachella Valley were pummeled with sand and strong gusts of wind.
Danny Rice has lived in the Coachella Valley his whole life, and for much of it, he’s been homeless. This winter has been especially hard on him and others who live on the street.
“Better learn to be equipped. That’s all I can say. If you are not equipped you are going to get wet,” Rice said.
Another storm is on its way this weekend. Strong gusts blow through the pass ahead of the rain sending sand and dust into the air, reducing visibility on I-10.
Conditions made life miserable for those walking in the wind.
“This is really obnoxious, it’s crazy, because you are walking into it and not getting anywhere. The sand it is terrible man,” said Brian Jones in Thousand Palms.
As difficult as these storms can be for those in the elements, even those who suffer the most see the upside.
“I think it is going back to normal I think the drought is finally over because the rain has not been like this since I was a kids,” Rice said.
Storm clouds have started to crest over the top of Mount San Jacinto, a premonition of the wet weather on it’s way to soak the sand and quench the thirst of the freshly bloomed desert wildflowers.
