Rescued hiker fell 40 feet on Palm Springs trail

A woman is recovering after falling 40 feet while hiking the Palm Springs Mountains.

Search and rescue teams responded around 10 on Saturday morning. Rangers from the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians along with the Palm Springs Fire Department were able to locate her.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department aviation unit and Palm Springs search and rescue members were eventually able to hoist her down the mountain safely.

Firefighters determined the hiker had a fractured leg. She was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment.
