Indio 5th grader asks mom to buy him food & water to give to homeless
A lesson in paying it forward — taught by a 5th grader in Indio who is hoping to change the lives of the homeless people in his neighborhood.
Carlos Corona, 10, says when he is out shopping with his mom he would ask her to buy him something — not a toy, but water and food that he could give to the homeless people he saw on the streets.
Carlos’ mother says her son was born with a cleft lip, and he hopes to become a doctor, or serve in the Army one day so he can continue helping others.
KESQ and CBS Local 2 caught up with Carlos on Friday morning to ask him about his generosity.
“If they [homeless people] don’t have any money, what are they going to do? If they don’t have any food, what are they going to eat,” Carlos said. “Kids, if you see some people, just tell your mom, ‘Oh mom, you don’t have to buy me toys. Buy me some water, food, stuff like that for them,” Carlos added.
His mother said it was heart-warming to hear him think about others at such a young age.
