Riverside County Sheriff’s Department invesitgates fatal shooting involving Beaumont police officers

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the fatal shooting Saturday evening of an armed man by Beaumont police officers.

Deputies said Beaumont police have asked the Sheriff’s Department to conduct an independent investigation of the incident. They said Beaumont police officers responded to a domestic violence call on the 1300 block of Playa Street around 5 p.m. Saturday night.

The Sheriff’s Department said the Beaumont police officers shot the suspect after he pointed a handgun at them when they tried making contact with him.

The suspect died at the scene after officers and paramedics tried treating his injuries.

The Sheriff’s Department has taken over the investigation. The Beaumont police officers involved in the incident have been put on administrative leave per the Beaumont Police Department’s policy. The names of those officers have not been released. The suspect’s name has also not been release, pending the notification of his family.
