Palm Springs joins cities across U.S. in hosting 2nd annual Women’s March
One year after millions across the U.S. first donned the distinctive pink caps, cities across the nation served as host to the 2nd annual Women’s March. Local marchers gathered at Frances Stevens Park in Palm Springs Saturday morning.
The Palm Springs march was organized by former Senator Barbara Boxer’s PAC for a Change. Local and state leaders took to the podium, including, Former U.S Senator Barbara Boxer, Supervisor Manuel Perez, Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia and Palm Springs councilmembers Christy Holstege and Lisa Middleton.
“We have that freedom and that ability to elect people who will fight for us. Its’ the United States of America no the divided states of america,” Boxer said.
In 2017, Palm Desert’s Women’s March garnered a crowd of approximately 1,000. This year, in Palm Springs, organizers say even more people showed their support.
The marchers’ message hasn’t changed much in the year; the focus remains honed in on female empowerment and opposition to President Donald Trump. However, the motto has changed in the new year. In 2017, the March rallied around “Hear our Voices,” in 2018, “Hear our Vote” is the rallying cry.
