Imperial High School student charged with making criminal threats

Update: Due to some confusion online, concerned parents have reached out to KESQ & CBS Local 2 about a potential threat at Indio High School. There was a student from Imperial High School, abbreviated IHS, who was arrested for a threat last Friday, but no such threat was posed by an Indio High School (also abbreviated IHS) student. According to Mary Perry, the Public Information Officer of the Desert Sands Unified School District, Indio High School has heightened security as an extra precaution. The heightened security measure is known as a “lock out,” which is different from a “lockdown.” Perry said that she applauds the students who notified police about the potential threat, but emphasized that it there not an active issue at Indio High School. A high school student was arrested after police said he allegedly made criminal threats last week. Friday, the Imperial Police Department was contacted by Imperial High School officials regarding a potential threat to students. Imperial Police Department detectives were dispatched to IHS to interview witnesses and a potential suspect. The suspect is currently suspended. Suspensions can last up to five days. If there is a chance of a student being expelled the expulsion is extended until a hearing is held. The school did not want to comment on Manaig was later booked into Imperial County Jail. His bail was set and the suspect is now out on bond. Law enforcement continues to monitor the situation. School officials did say Manaig, an 18-year-old senior at IHS, was arrested and charged with making criminal threats. Manaig. What they can share is that the initial threat of danger to the students and staff has been lifted. Law enforcement continues to work with school officials. Officials said students alerted the staff about these threats, and they consider them heroes in this situation.
