Man accused of setting mother on fire will face murder charges
Israel Ramirez-Guardado, the man accused of setting his mother ablaze in Indio, will now face murder charges, according to John Hall of the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. His mother, 61-year-old Francisca Ramirez, passed away on Sunday.
“We have made a decision to amend the current criminal complaint in case INF1800165, adding one count of murder,” reads the statement from Hall. “The amended complaint will be filed with the court on Monday, March 5 and an arraignment has been scheduled at 8:30 that day in Dept. 3N. No further details about the case or the amended complaint will be available until that time.”
On January 26., Israel Ramirez-Guardado allegedly attacked Francisca Ramirez in the loading dock area of the Mathis Brothers furniture store in Indio. Francisca Ramirez was a longtime employee of the store.
Francisca suffered severe burns to 50 percent of her body and was taken to the Arrowhead Burn Center in Colton.
Shortly after the alleged crime, Israel went to the Indio Jail and confessed to the attack.
Guardado had been “living out of his car” and has links to the states of Florida and Utah. According to the investigation, he came to Indio with the purpose of “settling matters” with family members which included his mother.
