Freeway collisions causing backups
UPDATE 8:50 a.m.: Traffic was clearing at both collisions.
Two unrelated traffic collisions were slowing motorists down Monday morning around the Coachella Valley, and west of Beaumont.
One collision was on Interstate 10 in Palm Desert westbound just west of Washington Street and causing a significant backup. It happened at approximately 7:39 a.m. Traffic was slowed for more than a mile in the westbound lanes to the east toward Jefferson Street.
The California Highway Patrol said five vehicles were involved. Some were stopped in the freeway’s center divider. Others were parked on the roadside shoulder.
There were no injuries reported.
Another four-vehicle wreck was backing up westbound traffic just west of Beaumont, again on Interstate 10 just west of Oak Valley Parkway near Brookside Avenue.
Traffic was backed up in the westbound lanes for more than a mile.
