Suspect crashes while leaving deadly hit-and-run scene

A driver ran over and killed a pedestrian in the pre-dawn hours in Thermal Sunday, drove off and minutes later was in a multi-vehicle crash.

California Highway Patrol crash reports said a Jeep hit a pedestrian at the intersection of Avenue 60 and Johnson Street, an area surrounded by farm fields.

It was reported at 3:53 a.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect drove off and about 15 minutes later was involved in a three-car crash, causing two people to be hospitalized with minor injuries, according to the CHP and a spokesperson for the Riverside County Fire Department.

No details on the second crash were released, or if any suspect was
arrested.

The CHP was investigating the crash.
