Hiker rescued from Idyllwild-area trail

Firefighters used a helicopter to rescue an injured hiker from a hard-to-reach spot on a trail in the San Jacinto Mountains Sunday.

The hiker suffered a moderate leg injury just before 1:30 p.m. on the Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail in Humber Park, near the 24000 block of Fern Valley Road, according to April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department.

She said the hiker was found, flown off the trail by a helicopter and then transported to a hospital by an awaiting ground ambulance.
