Student Athlete of the Week – Lindsey Scamman
As soon as Lindsey Scamman stepped foot on West Point, she knew Army was going to be her new home.
“I loved everything about it, the facilities, I liked seeing everyone in their uniforms! It was very nice,” Student athlete of the week Lindsey Scamman said with a smile.
As most seniors prepare for one final summer before they take the next step in their lives, this Twentynine Palms Wildcat is instead going to take a leap ahead.
“The fourth of July I go to New York and do 3-months of basic training and then I go to school in August,” Scamman said of her summer plans.
“I know she had other opportunities to go other places but this is going to be wonderful for her. Both her parents are retired Marines so they are 100 percent behind her, ” Head swimming coach Michelle Minatrea-teo said.
Her fellow classmates haven’t beat her.
“They are always trying to beat me in PE but they can’t,” Scamman said with a smile.
Either has the rest of the De Anza League, a decorated high school athlete to say the least.
“De Anza League MVP for basketball and swim. First team for volleyball.”
You can make that a three straight year De Anza League MVP in a program that has won over 75 straight league games. So just like she goes up to get the basketball.
“21.5 rebounds a game,” Scamman answered.
She is going to go after some playing time as just a freshman on the D-1 Army Black Knights.
“I would really like some playing time. I think if I work hard enough I can work my way in the starting five somehow. Just mentally myself I am always trying to pin myself up against the best no matter who that is,” Scamman said.
While many are going to be hitting the pool for a summer bath. Lindsey Scamman has other plans.
“Already getting tear gassed,” Scamman said in reference to basic training.
